FEATURE · TRANSPARENT ADAPTATION

Every change comes with a reason. Every reason comes with the data.

Most training apps change your plan silently. TrainPlan won't. If the plan can't explain a change, it doesn't make the change.

Nothing changes silently.

Every adaptation produces an entry in your plan history. You open the app on Monday and the changes are right there — labelled, explained, dated.

Every explanation cites data.

'Volume down 15% this week' isn't enough. 'Volume down 15% this week because HRV dropped 18% over the last seven days' is. The chart is one tap away.

You can override any change.

Don't agree? Revert it, tweak it, or write a note the engine reads. The plan builds a picture of what you agree with over time.

TRANSPARENT ADAPTATION

Every change comes with its reason attached.

Why the phase moved, what that phase is for, and the session evidence the decision was built on.

  • TrainPlan schedule screen showing a training week and a proposed plan change with the reasoning behind it
Schedule Your week, with the proposed plan change and its reasoning waiting at the top.
  • TrainPlan plan phase screen describing the build phase with adjustable start and end weeks
Plan phase What each phase is for, how long it runs, and where you can move its edges.
  • TrainPlan completed session screen comparing actual pace and heart rate against the planned targets
Planned vs actual Your run matched to the session — pace and heart rate measured against target.

IN THE APP

The rationale card, end to end.

When the plan changes, three things appear in the app:

  1. An adaptation banner on your home screen, summarising the change in one line.
  2. A rationale card when you tap the banner, with the full explanation, the underlying chart, and the option to revert.
  3. A history entry in your plan log, permanent and searchable, so you can see what the plan has been doing over weeks and months.

This is the feature no competitor has fully cracked, and it’s the reason we treat adaptation as something the user owns rather than something the app does to them.

FAQ

How the rationale actually works.

The adaptation engine writes it. It’s a constraint on the model: no change without an explanation in natural language. If the engine can’t produce one, the change doesn’t ship.

It cites the data points the engine used. Occasionally the engine weights signals in ways a human coach might question — that’s what the override and the note are for. The feedback shapes future plans.

Yes. Tap the share icon on any rationale card. You get a shareable summary (no personal data) including the change, the reason, and the underlying trend. Physios find this useful too.

The history log is complete. Filter by week, by session type, or by what triggered the change (completion, heart rate, HRV, sleep, self-report). Export as CSV if you want it outside the app.
